How Environment, EMFs, and Conscious Choices Shape Health

Biohack Yourself and Aires Roundtable Panel

A recap of the roundtable discussion with Biohack Yourself Media, hosted by Tereza Lolli during the UFC International Fight Week.

In our world that’s increasingly driven by smart devices and hidden stressors, a powerful question is rising to the surface: How do our environments – visible and invisible – shape our well-being?

That’s exactly what the recent Biohack Yourself roundtable discussion, hosted by Tereza Lolli, set out to explore. With a panel that included doctors, scientists, elite athletes, and expert designers, this conversation took a deep dive into how our homes, routines, and environmental exposures like EMFs can either support or sabotage our longevity.

Joining the conversation were:

  • Gary Brecka, human biologist and longevity expert

  • Josh Bruni, CEO of Aires

  • Dr. Nicholas Dogris, neurotherapist and founder of Neurofield

  • Sarah Baeumler, expert designer and hotelier

  • Michael Chandler, elite UFC fighter

  • Anthony Lolli, author and co-founder of Biohack Yourself

  • Dr. Dan Rubin, naturopathic oncologist focused on personalized longevity paths

What unfolded was a fascinating, hopeful discussion about how we design our spaces and actionable steps we can take towards living our best, longest lives.

Back to the Basics: What the Longest-Living People Already Know

Gary Brecka began the conversation with a bit of wisdom gleaned from the world’s Blue Zones where people consistently live past 100. The surprising truth? These communities don’t follow the same diets or cultural practices. They just share a few simple, powerful constants: whole foods, strong community bonds, mobility into old age, and a close connection to nature.

“Our modern lifestyle is full of toxins,” Brecka shared. “The further we get from Mother Nature, the sicker we become.”

He emphasized that new trends in home design are starting to reflect the growing awareness of this truth. People are turning to innovations such as biocentric lighting, non-VOC materials, and air and water filtration systems. It’s now about designing for biology, not just aesthetics.

Invisible Impacts: The Truth About EMFs

When the discussion turned to electromagnetic field radiation (EMFs), Aires CEO Josh Bruni explained why EMFs are so often overlooked in the health and wellness world: “EMFs snuck up on us. Because they’re invisible, they’re easy to ignore.”

He shared how early panic over EMFs and cancer derailed the conversation, but the whole story is more complex. He emphasized that it’s not about being afraid of technology, but understanding that your nervous system is responding to EMFs whether you’re aware of it or not.

Modern technologies aren’t inherently bad. But as we’ve drifted from the Earth’s natural energetic frequencies, our bodies’ own cellular communication has suffered. Fortunately, this is something we can measure – and improve .

How Elite Performers Think About Environment

For a UFC fighter like Michael Chandler who’s known for his discipline and drive, success comes down to optimizing every last detail. Because he’s up against other elite athletes, he’s nearly matched in ability and strength. With that in mind, he’s not looking for a 10% or 25% gain in performance, he’s looking for that 1% edge that will set him ahead.

Chandler doesn’t demonize technology. After all, it powers all of the connections and opportunities of modern life. But he does believe in mitigating its effects on the body. That’s why he uses Aires devices in his training spaces and his home.

Designing Wellness from the Ground Up

Sarah Baeumler, wellness-focused designer and hotelier, brought powerful insights to the discussion about how wellness is so much more than just one room in your house. She thinks of a home as a living, breathing envelope and encourages her clients to look deeper than saunas and home gyms. Consider how air flows through the walls, how building materials impact breathing, how lighting and layout can foster connection.

“We’re trying to come at it from a different angle…it’s not just four walls where you have a gym or a spa, it’s how we integrate it into everyday life.”

These conversations at the initial stages of development are necessary for developing spaces that naturally promote wellness. After all, wellness isn’t a solo mission – it’s community-focused. And by integrating biophilic design that connects people with nature and each other, Baeumler’s work creates spaces where people don’t just feel good, they heal.

What Happens to the Brain in EMF-Heavy Spaces?

Dr. Nicholas Dogris has spent 35 years tracking the effects of EMF exposure on the brain. During the roundtable discussion, he shared about how our bodies enter a sympathetic arousal state when exposed to EMFs. That’s fight or flight. But because we can’t escape the source – EMFs are everywhere – our body stays stuck there.

The result? Anxiety, insomnia, and nervous system overload.

Dr. Dogris aims to create different ways to help people to stabilize, to engage with technology in a way that’s healthy – not harmful. He shared tips for supporting our bodies amidst this constant barrage of EMF radiation, like unplugging and actively stepping away from technology to engage in activity that’s good for us. Specifically, he recommended Aires devices as essential tools for helping clean up the electromagnetic environment – like a filtration device in your home that reduces the harmful effects of EMF exposure.

Why Doctors Are Taking Notice

For Dr. Dan Rubin, EMF awareness is critical for patients battling cancer and autoimmune diseases. When asked what he thought the healthcare industry should be doing to further implement this kind of awareness, he responded, “The healthcare industry globally is gigantic, and to get them to start having this kind of conversation in America is going to be very difficult. They’re nowhere close to having this conversation.”

He went on to explain how ultraprocessed foods and EMF together are moving us towards a “disease model,” not longevity. When cells are already depleted from consuming food that does not provide adequate nutrition, the exposure to electromagnetic radiation pushes them further from health.

Dr. Rubin urges a return to whole foods, movement, and 3D sensory input instead of just life on screens. When it comes to EMF mitigation, he recommends Aires to his patients to support their bodies during their fight for wellness.

Bringing Wellness Within Reach

It’s no secret that some of the more advanced biohacking technology is out of reach for the average household budget. So when asked how wellness can be affordable for the everyday person, Biohack Yourself co-founder Anthony Lolli provided a simple truth: It starts with choices. He believes in educating yourself and making the best choices with that education. Maybe it starts with no longer drinking out of plastic, then that can lead into another small change, and then another. Small changes now can have huge, lasting impacts on health.

He encouraged listeners to forget about the old you, and adopt the new you. Instead of saying “I was a smoker,” say: “I’m not a smoker.” It’s a mindset shift, and it’s powerful. After all, we’re all creatures of habit. Lolli reminds us to incorporate intentional habits that can lead to better health.

Optimize Your Space

Aires exists to bridge the gap between technology and wellness. Instead of blocking EMFs, these tools are designed to tune your electromagnetic environment to bring your body’s baseline even higher. When your body is performing at its peak, it can do what it’s meant to do: restore, rest, and heal – even with EMFs present.

Rooted in Awareness, Not Fear

One theme kept surfacing throughout the roundtable discussion: This is about empowerment, not avoidance. We live in a world filled with EMFs, both natural and manmade. Avoiding them completely isn’t realistic, and it’s also not necessary. By educating ourselves, staying involved in the conversations, and designing our lives with health in mind, we can create environments that support healing and longevity.

“Your immune system can hear everything you think,” Dr. Rubin reminded the audience. So let’s start thinking in ways that help it thrive.
