Every parent wants to protect their child's ability to focus and retain what they learn at school. Most interventions target the obvious variables: sleep, nutrition, reduced screen time, homework structure. The electromagnetic environment of the school day — six or more hours of continuous WiFi exposure — is a variable most conversations skip. The research says it shouldn't be.

Most products marketed to parents promise to shield or block WiFi from their child's devices. The physics of that claim doesn't hold — a blocked signal is a non-functional device. The precautionary logic

None of these governments declared WiFi dangerous. All applied the precautionary principle to children's developing environments — when the cost of caution is low and the potential cost of being wrong is high, waiting for definitive regulatory proof is itself a policy choice.

Alpha Waves: The Brain State Your Child Needs to Learn

The human brain produces different electrical frequencies depending on its current state. Alpha waves (8–13 Hz) are the frequency associated with calm, focused attention — the brain state during reading, problem-solving, active listening, and engaged learning. A child who goes to school every day is exposed to this protocol 12 times longer than the animal study that documented hippocampal changes. That is not proof of equivalent outcomes in children — biology is complex and species differences matter. A grade schooler who sits next to a Chromebook for 6 hours per day is exposed to that metabolic cost for a duration far exceeding the 50-minute JAMA protocol.
