What the Independent Research Shows

Before examining the school-specific science, it’s worth establishing what the independent, non-commercial research record already says. These are the findings that inform the policy decisions below — and the biological research that schools and governments have already acted on.

IARC/WHO — 2011: The International Agency for Research on Cancer classified radiofrequency electromagnetic fields as a Group 2B carcinogen — “possibly carcinogenic to humans” — based on a systematic review by 31 scientists from 14 countries. Current wireless safety standards measure thermal effects — tissue heating.
