Lukyanov, Kopyltsov and Serov’s Springer paper shows how a patterned silicon surface develops a stable, multifrequency electromagnetic response in their computer model. It gives a mathematical account of the resonator’s field behavior and connects directly to the later experimental work on the patterned surface.

What the model established
The researchers modeled the changing electric field over a silicon wafer with a self-affine pattern of coupled ring grooves. Their equations describe polarization, charge concentration and currents in relation to the surface geometry. The modeled wafer measured 20 × 20 mm, with grooves 0.2 μm wide and 0.8 μm deep.
Across the modeled surface-boundary conditions, the system developed a stable multifrequency field distribution after a settling period. Changing the period of the incident radiation preserved the general character of that distribution. The authors describe the surface as a transducer: its geometry converts the incident excitation into a response containing multiple wave processes.
From the physical model to experimental measurement
This paper builds on the authors’ earlier work on coherent electromagnetic emission from a semiconductor surface with self-affine relief. The 2026 Lukyanov–Makarov infrared experiment extends the physical research program through direct measurements during heating and cooling. The physics and engineering collection connects those models and measurements, while the human research collection documents the biological endpoints investigated in the broader program.
