IFRAN Stage 3 (2017): Wi-Fi Router Impairs Rat Memory; Aires Defender Resonators Restore 24-Hour Recall
Behavioral and histological study showing that Wi-Fi router EMR severely disrupts memory consolidation in rats — and that Aires Defender resonators fully restore short-term memory recall to control levels 24 hours post-conditioning.
Stage 3 Objectives
This is Stage 3 (May–October 2017) of the Pavlov Institute / Aires Foundation multi-stage scientific cooperation. Building on the cytogenetic damage findings of Stages 1 and 2, Stage 3 extended the research to:
- Measure how Wi-Fi router EMR and Aires Defender resonators affect conditioning and maintenance of a passive avoidance conditioned reflex (learning and memory)
- Examine neurodegenerative processes in the hippocampus and neocortex using histological analysis (FluoroJade B fluorescent staining for degenerating neurons)
Memory Test: Passive Avoidance Conditioned Reflex
The passive avoidance reflex is a validated behavioral test for memory consolidation in rodents. Rats are placed in a lit chamber connected to a dark chamber. Rats instinctively prefer the dark chamber. During conditioning, entering the dark chamber triggers a brief electric shock (1 mA, 1 minute). The test measures whether rats remember this experience — remaining in the lit chamber — at 24 hours and 7 days after conditioning.
Groups: Intact control (vivarium, no EMR), Faraday cage control (no router), Router exposure (4d×6h/day), Router + Resonators (4d×6h/day). After the 4-day EMR exposure period, all groups were conditioned and tested.
Results: Memory Consolidation

Key Insight: Natural Background EMF
A notable finding was that the Faraday cage alone — without any router — impaired memory compared to intact controls (64% vs. 17% failure). This suggests that the natural Earth electromagnetic background is not neutral for biological systems; organisms depend on it for normal cognitive function. Disruption in either direction (enhancement by router EMR or reduction by Faraday shielding) impairs memory consolidation. The Aires Defender resonators, which transform rather than block EMR, showed the best memory outcomes — matching intact controls.
Histological Analysis
In addition to behavioral testing, brain slices from the hippocampus and neocortex were analyzed using FluoroJade B fluorescent staining, which selectively marks degenerating neurons. This allowed direct comparison of neurodegeneration levels across exposure conditions. The histological data provided neurobiological context for the behavioral memory findings, examining whether the router’s behavioral effects were accompanied by measurable neuronal damage in memory-critical brain structures.
