St. Petersburg Army Medical Academy (2000): Clinical Trials of Aires Matrix Applicator — EEG, HRV, Cognitive and Neuromotor Tests in 21 Subjects

Design Highlights
A controlled placebo design: the experimental group used real AIRES Matrix Applicators (with fractal pattern); the control group used identical-looking clear film without the pattern. Subjects had no prior exposure to the device and were measured before treatment, after the first 6-day series, and after the complete 3-series course. Blood testing continued for 3 additional weeks post-course. Total assessments: over 500 individual measurements.

Key Results
EEG
After one 6-day series: trend-level improvements. After the full 3-series course: statistically reliable changes in EEG. The effect was bifurcated by initial EEG type:
- Dysrhythmic-type subjects: EEG normalization — more regular frequency-amplitude pattern, correction of dysrhythmia
- Ideal-norm-type subjects: EEG shift toward deactivation — healthier resting state balance
Placebo group: no EEG changes. The effect was bidirectional toward normalization, dependent on starting state — a key characteristic of regulatory (rather than stimulant) interventions.
Neuromotor and Reaction Performance
CSMR analysis showed positive effects on the dynamics of the main nervous processes (excitation and inhibition balance), indicating improved CNS regulation over the course of treatment.
Blood Biochemistry
Blood samples were analyzed at baseline, after the first series, after the third series, and 3 weeks post-course — allowing assessment of both immediate and sustained effects on hemorheological and biochemical parameters.

The Army Medical Academy (now Kirov Military Medical Academy) is one of Russia's oldest and most rigorous medical research institutions, founded in 1798. Research Laboratory #4 of the Psychophysiology Department specializes in human performance under stress — making it an appropriate setting for evaluating an intervention targeting psychoemotional stress and chronic fatigue.
