Carlson Tucker of Fox News Report: “TOXIC PHONES"

By moderate approximations, the average American spends around 4 hours per day using a cell phone. These devices have become an indispensable part of daily life. When it comes to the effects of cell phones on the public’s health, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which regulates the usage of telecommunication technologies, says that there is nothing to worry about. But several studies say otherwise, having linked the electromagnetic radiation used by cell phones and other devices to cancer. The National Toxicology Program, run by the United States Department of Health, found clear evidence of high exposures to radio frequency radiation emitted by cell phones to cause tumors in studies with rats. The cause of this discrepancy stems from how the FCC measures cell phone radiation. The FCC allows for cell phone radiation to be tested from up to an inch away from a person’s body. Manuals for devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ advise to keep the phone positioned at least 0.6 inches away from the body, but that is rarely the case in real life. In fact, many of these companies regularly run ads featuring phone usage that they themselves deem unsafe. A lawsuit filed last year against cell phone giants Apple and Samsung cites lab tests that show that using a cell phone in contact with the body, exposes the user to 3 to 5 times the amount of radiation that federal limits allow. Although there is next to no public discourse about this health issue in the United States, other countries are more keen to address this topic. The French government advised its public against prolonged use of cellphones against the users’ ears. In Italy the supreme court upheld a ruling linking a businessman’s frequent cell phone usage to his brain tumor. Whether or not this will change is unclear as the FCC’s standards are over 20 years old, predating cell phones, and their radiation testing is self-regulated by the manufacturers, making the limits easy to bend.
